This was a similar project to Project 4, however instead of using a fixed set up, panning the camera to follow the subject.

I shot this project immediately after project 4, with the same subject.

Panning at 1/320sec

30mm. F/3.5 1/320sec ISO 400

Pan 1/320

Shot 1. This was set with exactly the same settings as the first shot in Project 4. Even though this was a hand held shot, the outcome is almost exactly the same as that shot.

Panning at 1/60sec

30mm. F/7.1 1/60sec ISO 400

Pan 1/60

Shot 2. The background is now blurred. This gives a greater sense of motion in the shot.

Panning at 1/30sec

30mm. F/10.0 1/30sec ISO 400

Pan 1/30

Shot 3. The background is even more blurred. The cyclist is seems to be moving faster than in shot 2 (although in all shots, the cyclist was moving at the same speed).

Of the three shots I prefer the final shot. The blur of the cyclist’s pedals add more to the sense of motion in the shot. This is the first time I’ve taken shots with a moving camera and I’m pretty pleased with the results.

Comparing projects 4 and 5, I prefer project 5. With a fixed camera, if feels like the subject is passing through the shot, while panning the camera gives the impression that you are travelling with them.
