Projects

The idea behind this project was to photograph a situation as a series of shots.

Examples of a situation could be a parade or a market. The idea is to not spend a lot of time composing each shot but instead to keep the camera to your eye and compose and shoot ad-hoc whenever you see a pleasing scene.

I am particularly nervous of street photography and shooting strangers so I was a little wary on this project.

However, when on holiday in Beziers in Southern France, we visited a large fiesta. The fiesta was about to start and was pretty colourful due to the mix of local people and visiting rugby league supporters, supporting the Catalan Dragons and my team, Hull FC.

Also because the scene was so hectic and most people were busy drinking, eating and having a good time, I didn’t feel so conspicuous with my camera.

I walked the length of the main square and shot drinkers, market stalls, and even a marching band.

To conclude

I did quite enjoy shooting this project and some of the shots are images I would never have usually taken. However some shots I feel might have been better if I could have spent a little more time composing the shot. Perhaps with more practice I will get better at composing the shot quicker.

Fiesta 09

This is my favourite shot from the sequence.

Looking back at the shots, I do feel by taking a sequence it does give a better flavour of the colour, noise and chaos of the fiesta that a series of composed shots might not have portrayed.
